The most unexpected part of starting to feminize myself was the shoe-lust.  It came out of stereotype left field.  So now I love shoes, even these crappy ones from goodwill.

Hallowe’en!  In Seattle!  Going to bars dressed as a lady!

Ok, so you’ve got your “wax,” and your unsightly body hair (gross)

Now, sugaring is neat because it requires no strips or anything.  You just take the (hopefully cool enough) sugaring solution in your fingertips and form it into a little ball, like so

and spread it over the hairs you hate the most

I’ve seen people say that you should spread the wax against the direction of hair growth and rip in the direction of hair growth, and I’ve seen people say exactly the opposite (spreading with hair growth and yanking against it).  I found that using the former method resulted in hair being successfully yanked out by the roots, but that I had to go over the same area two or three times.  The latter method cleared an area quickly, but a lot of hairs were torn at the skin level, meaning they grew back much faster.

That’s really all there is to it!  As a glob of the wax starts to lose its stickiness, you set it aside and grab another, until you’ve used it all or it starts to harden.  Then you just throw it all back in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, reusing the same wax over and over.  Note that this makes it important that you have cleaned and scrubbed yourself beforehand.  After a few trips to the microwave you’ll be using wax that has taken up quite a bit of hair and dead skin cells, so you wanna minimize the gross factor.

However, the results are worth it in my opinion.  I sugared myself two weeks before Halloween, and when it was finally time to get dressed up, I only had to do some quick spot checks with a razor, and the stubble is only just starting to appear in earnest.

I have a relationship with my body hair that ranges anywhere from apathy, to desire (when I have occasionally had the misguided desire to grow a beard), to an adversarial one of disgust when I feel the need to make myself smooth and sexy.

I have shaved often enough in the past with not terrible results.  However, the fact that the smoothness lasts for maybe a day or so before itchy stubble appears has led me to search for a better way.

The obvious solution is waxing, and I was ready to jump in feet first to a tub-o-wax and then painfully rip it all off when my inner Scot suddenly urged me to seek a better, and above all cheaper way.  That’s when I discovered sugaring. (edit: if you want to get technical I didn’t so much “discover” it as I was told about it by my friend PositronicWoman) The recipe on the wikipedia page is the one I used, mixing

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/8 cup lemon juice
  • 1/8 cup water

into a sauce pan and bringing it to a boil. (I would recommend doubling this recipe at least)

Boil for at least five minutes

(This is where I departed from what is said on wikipedia.  You gotta boil it for at least five minutes, til it starts to turn a gold color.  Take a little bit in a spoon and run it under a cold tap.  It should be pliable, stretchy, and sticky.)

When it’s all done, pour it into a dish or something similar to allow it to cool to a viscous, amber consistency

And that’s all the material you really need!  Well, maybe not all…

Andrej Pejic | Nightline ABC

If anyone is interested, the interview is here: http://abcnews.go.com/Nightline/video/guy-doll-man-models-womens-clothes-14524558

It’s amazing how unaware the interviewer is.  Some of the questions she asks are just not-so-good.  But Andrej handles it with class and brilliance.

I love Andrej Pejic! Such a beautiful person, and I love his answers in this interview.

And I wish I looked like him. <3

  • Question: have you been thinking about getting a wig? I think you'd look good with blonde tresses. :3 - positronicwoman
  • Answer:

I have a wig that is blondish.  It is honestly not the best, but I think I can make it look good with some creative braiding.
